Dr. Sandeep Singh Chohan

Dr. Sandeep Singh Chohan has been teaching Punjabi at Columbia University since 2003. He also teaches at SUNY Old Westbury on Long Island where he started a Punjabi language program in 2013. Sandeep studied at Punjabi University in Patiala, India where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Punjabi Literature and Theater. He teaches the Gurmukhi script and provides context for students on Punjabi history and culture. His classes focus on the four basic language skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Punjabi. Sandeep has also taught Punjabi at Hofstra and New York Universities. He serves as a language expert for Punjabi and Hindi for the Unified Court System of New York and California Courts. He has produced an audio Punjabi Conversational Course Level-1 for Pimsleur Language Programs. He worked on a Hindi language course for Pimsleur as well. Sandeep is also a poet and writer of short stories.

 

Sukhmanpreet Singh

Sukhman is an undergraduate student at Yale University majoring in Mathematics and Physics. Growing up in a part of Queens where the Punjabi culture flourishes, he is well-versed with the Punjabi language and the Gurmukhi script. He is passionate about further learning and helping teach Punjabi to others, and this website provided a wonderful opportunity for him to do that. Sukhman seeks to become a research scientist after completing higher studies in physics.
